  　　It is said that the custom of Spring Festival started in when people  offered sacrifice to ancestors in the last month of Chinese lunar calendar. At  that time, people prepared the sacrifice by doing thorough cleaning, having  bathes and so on. Later, people began to worship different deities as well on  that day. It is the time that almost all the farm works were done and people  have free time. The sacrificing time changed according to the farming schedule  and was not fixed until the Han Dynasty (202BC-220AD). The customs of  worshipping deities and ancestors remains even though the ceremonies are not as  grand as before. It is also the time that spring is coming, so people held all  kinds of ceremonies to welcome it.
  　　There are many legends about Spring Festival in Chinese culture. In folk  culture, it is also called “guonian” (meaning “passing a year”). It is said that  the “nian” (year) was a strong monster which was fierce and cruel and ate one  kind of animal including human being a day. Human beings were scared about it  and had to hide on the evening when the “nian” came out. Later, people found  that “nian” was very scared about the red color and fireworks. So after that,  people use red color and fireworks or firecrackers to drive away “nian”. As a  result, the custom of using red color and setting off fireworks remains.
  　　Preparing the New Year starts 7 days before the New Year’s Eve. According  to Chinese lunar calendar, people start to clean the house on Dec. 24, butcher  on Dec. 26th and so on. People have certain things to do on each day. These  activities will end Jan. 15th of the lunar calendar.

  　　As you can imagine, as international students in Australia, the biggest  challenge is English,
  　　I remembered that when I come here first time, there is a party in the  house of my home stay. During the time, they played jokes and they laughed all  the time, do you know how embarrassed that is, everyone laughed except you. So I  pretend to understand the joke in another party, I saw everyone laugh and I  laugh too in 5 seconds later. My home stay was surprised about that and asked me  “do you understand?”， and I answered “no”， “So why do you laugh?” ”because I do  not want to be embarrassed”!
  　　But as I receive this award today, I want to thank to them, because they  encourage me to be involved with the committee rather than staying in at home,  play computer and speak Chinese.
  　　When I came to Wantirna College first time, I met liz collar who is  international student coordinator. She is very kind to me, and she encourage me  join SRC, I went to SRC meetings regularly all the time, but I didn’t even know  what SRC was! That is the reason why I told her, I don’t want to go to SRC  anymore. But she said “why not? You should go and you have to go!”I asked” why?”  she said:” because I said so!”
  　　But as ii receive this award today, I want to thank her. She helps me a  lot.
  　　Truth be told, I am not the best student in Wantirna College, but I  appreciate this award and I will try my best in future.

In the year 2100, life in Guangzhou would definitely be different from what we are used to now. By that point, the methods of transportation have probably changed drastically. It is possible that we could have cars that hover above the ground and move much faster than what we are used to now. Possibly, a comprehensive railway system has also been built so there is no need for cars at all. The environment would probably also be different. With the amount of development Guangzhou is having, by 2100 there might not be much plant life as we know existing on Earth anymore. However, it is also possible that scientists could have come up with other ways of sustaining life, or replanted more artificial trees. The lives of people would also be different. For instance, people probably never need to leave the house to do anything anymore, whether it be to mail a letter, do their grocery shopping, or go to work or school. Everything would likely be done on the computers through the internet. There would not be much face-to-face contact, and people will probably communicate with each others on screens at home. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this. it will be much more convenient and productive for people to be able to do everything from home, but at the same time people will also lose aspects of their social lives as they leave their house less often. Furthermore, there would be no need to do housework as this could be taken over by robots that can assist in such labour. Science and technology would continue advancing rapidly in many areas--possibly, cures for currently incurable diseases might be found, and there might be ways to genetically engineer people so they can be improved. However, there is a downside to all this, as the technology might be very damaging to our world and also to our way of life. However these are all mostly asssumptions, and we can only know what will happen in 2100 when we get there.
